Babble 03:00
Everyone spoke the same language, everyone said the same thing Where should we go, what should we do, who should we be?
2.
Rip it Up 04:08
Right now there’s an opening, but only right now There’s a window so you gotta get as far away as You can pack it up and go You don’t wait around to know Just gotta stand up and get as far away as You told me to go but what do I know There’s a compass so I gotta get as far away as I’ll just be pretending respecting I won’t be a bent thing But where do I stop if I get as far away as I don’t know You didn’t say I don’t know Where to stop, anyway I can’t get to saving my soul I know where to go but I don’t know Where to stop, anyway I can’t get to starting my soul I know where to go but I don’t know Where to stop, anyway I don’t know You didn’t say I don’t know Where to stop, anyway Didn’t choose this path I’m gonna tear it up Didn’t make this map I’m gonna rip it up rip it up I don’t know You didn’t say I don’t know Where to stop, anyway

The Future 03:38
I’ve been thinking about where we come from (Is it, is it, is it) And I’ve been trying to hard to sleep (Is it, is it, is it) Yeah, I’ve been thinking about where we come from (Is it, is it, is it) But I don’t know how much I'm gonna need How do you weigh that? (I don't) How do you weigh that? (I don't know) How do you weigh that junk? (Is it junk?) I’ve been thinking about moving on from (Is it, is it serious?) Anything I needed to be everything (Is it real, is it now, is it serious?) Yeah I’ve been thinking about moving on from (Is it, is it serious?) All of the, some of the, I’m missing anything How do you weigh that? (I don't) How do you weigh that? (I don't know) How do you weigh that junk? (Is it junk?) And you, you’re not on the run now You can’t undercut The universe can rust And fall dissolving How do you weigh that? How do you weigh that? How do you weigh that? (I don't) How do you weigh that? (I don't know) How do you weigh that junk? (Is it, is it, is it)

Close to God 04:21
I gotta tell you what I gotta tell you everything I gotta say cuz honestly I can’t stay I can’t wait here patiently I need walls sometimes to shut down I needa close my eyes If I’m allowed I needa speak and not just listen I needa speak and not be sinning How can you think it’s just How can you think it’s easy to Rip it all up and tear it all down and just leave Without a place you’re going to I didn’t say one thing to turn back I didn’t question anything you said I’ve had enough of all of the virtue And I don’t mean to hurt you but We need to separate You go, I go You take, I take You think you so close to god You think you got connections that we don't got I gotta tell you what You think you so close You think you so close to god I gotta tell you everything You so close to god You think you got connections that we don't got How can you think it’s just You think you so close You think you so close to god How can you think it’s easy to You so close to god Rip it all up We need to separate You go, I go You take, I take

Desecrate 04:29
I forgot how to speak (Away) I forgot what to say (Away) I forgot all my words And I don't recognize your face (Away) I don't know where to walk (Away) But I'll walk for days (Away) This is all I know I know it's a change (Away) And I'll leave it behind In the place it was made And I'll tear, I'll rip, I'll claw Let them stay afraid Run away So much we can desecrate Blood pulsing through open veins Find something that is innate I just want to go to sleep Run away So much we can desecrate Blood pulsing through open veins Find something that is innate

about

This album is based on the first half of the book of Genesis. Tracks 1, 2, 4, and 5 are all based on specific moments in Genesis, and Track 3 functions as the turning point in the record.

The record is essentially two sets of partner tracks (1-5, 2-4) with Track 3 at the center. Track 1, "Babble" is a retelling of the story of the tower of Babel, while Track 5, "Desecrate" is my imagination of the immediate aftermath of the falling of the tower. Track 2, "Rip it Up," is based on Genesis 12:1, where God tells Abraham to go but doesn't give him a destination. Track 4, "Close to God," is essentially a response to that moment. It is based on Genesis 13:11 and is written from the perspective of Lot coming to terms with his decision to leave Abraham. Finally, Track 3, "The Future," serves as a sort of reflection on this larger process of reinterpreting moments from Genesis in somewhat oblique ways.
